PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — An investor and shareholder in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has petitioned Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice to intervene in a dispute involving the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei, citing alleged financial wrongdoing and breaches of trust.

According to letters sent to Cambodian authorities, the investor claims that Yamada, a Japanese national, engaged in fraudulent practices that caused significant financial losses. The allegations include inflated real estate purchase prices in Cambodia, with preliminary findings suggesting roughly $4 million may have been misappropriated for personal gain and for associates.

The investor also alleges that Yamada orchestrated fictitious business transactions, including loans exceeding $7 million, and diverted funds through shell companies connected to himself and alleged collaborators. Some of the money is said to have been transferred to an overseas account in the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.

In addition, the investor claims Yamada established shell companies in Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and Cambodia using nominee directors while retaining direct control over related bank accounts and financial transactions.

Cambodian prosecutors have reportedly filed charges in at least two criminal cases involving Yamada and others, with court orders freezing relevant assets and bank accounts. The letters indicate that authorities in other countries—including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States—are also investigating allegations including embezzlement, document forgery, breach of trust, and money laundering.

The investor has urged Cambodian authorities to carry out a thorough, impartial investigation and warned that any interference could allow suspects to evade justice, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.

YY Capital Partners and Yamada Taihei have not publicly responded, and the matter remains under investigation.
